It is a fact that a Paithani is a magnificent cloth made from silk; but Kapse Foundation is not and will never be stuck at just the yarn. Kapse Foundation is an enterprise to repay the moral debt of nurture that this land has bestowed upon us and that is why we have made it the home, the office of hundreds of those who are hard of hearing. They have the honourable company of our tribal brethren. We all are in it together to preserve the grand art of weaving this magnificent fabric called Paithani.

A Majestic Welcome at Kapse Foundation

Yeola is famous for its unique Paithanis. We too make unique Paithanis but we do much more than that: more than two hundred tribal and hearing-impaired employees live a dignified life as weavers at Kapse Paithani Complex. Thus, we help preserve the art of Paithani and at the same time repay the debt to the society. That is our commitment.

There is good reason why 'Paithani' is almost synonymous with Kapse Paithani. Kapse Paithani is a glorious success story in which an edifice has been erected where there was nothing. It is the story of one hard-working entrepreneur called Balkrishna Kapse. A story that began two decades ago and continues as Kapse Foundation to create the massive 'Kapse Paithani Park'.

What exactly are we trying to achieve?
We are constructing the Kapse Paithani Park on a 57-acre plot at Vadgaon which is just a few minutes away from Yeola; where an entire ecosystem is being created around the idea of a Paithani. Production to sales of a Paithani, the geography and the history, as also the present and the future of the Paithani will be displayed here for your benefit.
  • Kapse Paithani Park will have all the grace and the elegance of a Paithani. It will house all modern facilities involved in Paithani production to sales.
  • Kapse Foundation also is a part of this complex where a weavers' training centre has been constructed. Tribal and hearing-impaired boys and girls are engaged in weaving Paithani’s.
  • To supplement the employment, a well-equipped and sophisticated colony has been constructed in this complex to provide these young people with suitable residence, meals and all essential healthcare facilities.
  • In addition to this, Kapse Foundation also does research in organic farming and has an 'Ahilya Goshala' where organic milk is produced.
  • A 'Paithani Museum' also is taking shape in the complex where everything you want to know about this majestic attire will be presented at a single point.

About Our President Shri Balkrishna Kapse ...

Today, the name of Kapse Paithani is well-known all-over Maharashtra, thanks to Namdeo alias Balasaheb Kapse and the way he toiled relentlessly with a creative urge to bring his dream into reality like a man possessed. There was a time when he had to go from house to house carrying bundles of sarees on his head. The business with such a humble beginning has now a turnover in crores. It is literally a glorious tale of success how he worked hard in adversity to teach himself and ultimately created the empire of Kapse Paithani Industry as it stands today. However, he never lost the sense of gratitude towards the society and to repay that debt, he started the two activities of Kapse Foundation and Ahilya Goshala.

Since my childhood, I have seen how difficult it has been to find a place to defecate. People simply squatted right at the roadside or along a crop. Women had really a tough time. Kapse Foundation has constructed excellent toilets with septic tanks at hamlets like Vadgaon, Bhallegaon. These toilets are better than those provided by the Government.

Through Kapse Foundation, Balkrishna Kapse has done a lot for the Zilla Parishad school in Vadgaon. Because of the Foundation, the school now has a computer room, clean drinking water and an electric motor. The Foundation also has helped students, especially tribal students by providing a fund of Rs.11 lacs for their education.

We are in the handloom business since 2003. In 2003 we learnt it at Kapse's and in 2005 we had our own handloom at home. Even the silk and the design were provided by Kapses. We went on adding more handlooms as our business increased and now it keeps us both busy. Thanks to Kapse, Women have a source of income right in their homes.

I have done B. E. Mech. My house collapsed in the Corona pandemic. I could never have rebuilt it without the help of Kapse Foundation. Both of my children are employed at Kapse Foundation. Balubhau Kapse has been of great help to me. He gave me a roof on my head and charged me nothing for that. He also gave me two handlooms. During the day, my boys weave Paithani’s at the factory and do some weaving at home too, if they can find time. I am happy that my toils have paid off and we are settled.

"Here we have a three-month training program. At the start, the trainees just watch the trained weavers for two weeks. Thereafter they learn the process of removing kakada, etc. One deaf-mute person takes at least three to four months to be trained. It is a challenge to communicate with them in their language but we love this challenge. Because, you see, teaching them gives you a sense of profound fulfilment.

We became associated with Kapse Paithani around two years ago; but our life before and after is poles apart. The facilities we enjoy here cannot be found anywhere else and that is why we are able to do three to four inches of work per day here. Struggle for the development of Paithani!

2013

Kapse Foundation begins its activities

Activities like educational initiatives, health centres, free housing projects, skill training for workers, sanitation, etc. through fund raising.

Distribution of 100 tons of food and free meals for 600 people for 100 days.

Constructed 200 toilets in two villages and made the villages open defecation-free. Organising awareness camps to promote awareness about health and education.
